Safe & Sound Ministries was formed in 2019 with the purpose of assisting with the quality of life of mentally ill and special needs individuals. Our work includes housing assistance, healthcare advocacy, guardianship support, and care for mentally ill individuals who are or have been incarcerated.
Housing:
Since 2019, we have opened two supported independent living homes in Oakland County (one in Oxford and one in Pontiac). Our homes are staffed by a house manager and a social worker who visit one or more times per week to support the residents. Each resident has their own fully furnished room with all utilities included for a program fee of $425/month (as of 2025), which is well within the means of those on Social Security disability while leaving some funds for other needs.
Goal Setting and Support:
In 2023, with grant assistance from the United Way of Southeast Michigan, we started a goal-setting program called G.O.A.L. – “Get Out And Live” – which provides individualize support and supplemental funds to accomplish goals as well as small but meaningful incentive awards for completing milestones. This program has been a tremendous success, helping our residents to look beyond merely surviving to dreaming about all they can do and be. In the future we would now like to extend this program, reinforcing the work already done and involving more people outside of our homes who will gladly accept the challenge to rise above their disabilities.
Creative Arts:
In 2024, we started the “HeartWise Workshoppe,” a weekly creativity workshop where products are created for sale at local arts and craft shows. More information about this exciting venture can be found on our e-commerce website: www.heartwise-workshoppe.com!
